A Classic Victorian Layout Problem
Like many period homes, this property had a long, narrow kitchen in the rear addition that felt dark and cut off from the rest of the house. The adjacent side return was unused space, making the kitchen feel cramped and impractical for modern living.
THE PLAN
Widening and Brightening the Heart of the Home
A side return extension was the perfect solution. By infilling this wasted space, we created a new kitchen that is significantly wider, brighter, and more sociable. A large glazed rooflight pulls daylight deep into the plan, while elegant Crittall-style doors forge a strong connection with the garden, creating a sophisticated and highly functional space.
